In support of the implementation of the National Curriculum Statement in Grade 12 in 2008, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) undertook a special project to supply Grade 12 learners with one textbook for each of their 7 subjects.
2. |
Circular 0022/2007 provided schools with an opportunity to order books from the national Grade 12 booklist.
3. |
A WCED notice, dated 19 June 2007, gave schools permission to withhold their orders for the following subjects: Agricultural Sciences, Dance Studies, Engineering Graphics & Design, Mechanical Technology, Dramatic Arts and Information Technology, as the choice of a textbook in each case was limited to only an English version.
4. |
The national Department of Education has given an early indication that no new textbook submissions were received for Agricultural Sciences, Dance Studies and Information Technology. The schools that withheld orders for these subjects may now order from the original Grade 12 catalogue as there will be no additional textbooks on the supplementary catalogue for these subjects. These schools must submit their orders by 23rd November 2007 on the amended requisition form, attached to this minute as Addendum A. An abstract from the Grade 12 booklist is attached as Addendum B.
5. |
Kindly note that the textbook orders for Grade 12 in 2008 must not exceed, in the case of each subject, the 2007 Grade 11 enrolment for each subject. This project makes provision only for textbooks for each learner's first 7 compulsory subjects.
6. |
Schools that have withheld their orders for Engineering, Graphics & Design, Mechanical Technology, Dramatic Arts, Civil Technology, Design, Electrical Technology and Visual Arts should, in the meanwhile, complete the requisition form (attached to this minute as Addendum C), indicating the number of learner textbooks and teachers' guides required. These schools must submit their finalised requisition forms, including their choices of textbook for each of these subjects, once the national Grade 12 supplementary booklist becomes available on the 30th November 2007.
7. |
In order to ensure that the textbooks are delivered by 18 January 2008, each school must appoint a member of staff member who can be contacted once the supplementary list becomes available. Kindly return the attached Addendum D, giving the appointed staff member's contact details, to Ms Priscilla Phillips at ptphillips@pgwc.gov.za or to fax no. 021 903 9473 by 23rd November 2007.
8. |
Requisition forms must be signed by the principal and stamped with the school's stamp. Stamped and signed requisition forms must be submitted by hand to Mrs P Phillips, Education Multicentre, Nooiensfontein Road, Kuils River, or posted to Private Bag X14, Kuils River, 7579.
9. |
Addendum A (requisition for Agricultural Sciences, Dance Studies and Information Technology) and Addendum D (contact details of staff member) must be returned by 23 November 2007. Addendum C (supplementary requisition) must be returned by 4 December 2007.
10. |
Principals are also reminded that schools may not stockpile textbooks purchased via the special project and that CEMIS data is used to verify enrolment figures.
