1. The Western Cape Education Department wishes to ensure that all learners are exposed to as many opportunities available in the world of work, relevant employment opportunities and career options as possible as they move towards finalising their choice of a career.
2. The South African National Defence Force (SANDF) is recruiting applicants for a two-year course for Operational Emergency Care Practitioners (Paramedics).

3. The basic requirements are the following:
3.1 Between ages 18-22
3.2 Senior Certificate (with Biology). A good Senior Certificate result without Biology will also be considered.
3.3 Not area bound, i.e. must be prepared to go where required.

4. Candidates with Mathematics and Science could be considered for other (further) advanced health courses at university after completion of the above course or after three months of basic military training.
5. Applicants must complete both of the attached application forms and fax them for the attention of Lt Lindique at 012 671 5056 on or before 21 September 2007.
6. The successful applicants will be contacted directly by the SANDF.
7. Interviews will be conducted at the Youngsfield Military Base in Wetton, Cape Town on 25 and 26 September 2007.
8. In addition, learners are invited to the Castle, Cape Town, on 27 September from 10:00 -11:00 where officials from the SANDF will address them on Careers in the Military. Some learners may be selected at this event to be interviewed on 28 September 2007.
9. Schools are encouraged to ensure that the current Grade 12 learners are informed of this career opportunity as soon as possible.
10. Principals are requested to bring the contents of this curriculum minute to the attention of all the teachers.
