1. Training of teachers of Computer Applications Technology (CAT) and Information Technology (IT) to Grades 10 to 12 will be provided by the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT), Bellville Campus, as an outsourced service provider to the national Department of Education. Training will include practical sessions using the applications.

2. Provincial training programmes for CAT and IT
2.1 The training is open to teachers currently teaching CAT and IT.
2.2 The training programme for each subject, as developed by the service provider, spans a seven-day period and totals 64 hours.
2.3 Please refer to Annexure A for daily course times, assessment and training levels.

3. Course participants for CAT
3.1 There are learning assumptions for each level. (See Annexure A for a list of pre-requisite skills and knowledge for the different courses.)
3.2 CAT Level 3 will be offered from Sunday, 23rd September to Saturday, 29th September 2007. (CAT Levels 1 and 2 were offered in June 2006.)
3.3 Teachers completing CAT Levels 2 and 3 will receive exemption for the CAT-related courses if they enter for the ACE course offered at Tshwane University of Technology. They will have to complete only the education-related courses to qualify for an Advanced Certificate in Education (ACE) in CAT. The courses are registered on NQF Level 5 with 24 credits.

4. Course participants for IT
4.1 There are learning assumptions for each level. (See Annexure A for a list of pre-requisite skills and knowledge for the different courses.)
4.2 IT Level 2 will be offered from Sunday, 23rd September to Saturday, 29th September 2007. (IT Level 1 was offered in June 2006.)

5. Information required from teachers (See Annexure B - Registration form)

6. Teachers are required to have the following with them on arrival at the course:
  • Stationery: Pen and exam pad for taking notes
  • Copy of ID
  • National Curriculum Subject Statement
  • Learning Programme Guidelines
  • Subject Assessment Guidelines

7. Registration procedure
7.1 Teachers will have to register with the curriculum advisers at the appropriate EMDC. (See details below.) The attached registration form, Annexure B, must be completed and e-mailed or faxed to the appropriate curriculum adviser by no later than 31st August 2007.

7.2 The process will be managed by the Directorate: Curriculum Development at Head Office.
7.3 All teachers will be notified by the above-mentioned curriculum advisers as to whether their application for registration have been successful.
7.4 Only teachers issued with a letter of confirmation of their registration may present themselves at the training venue on Sunday, 23rd September 2007.

8. Expenses incurred by teachers
8.1 Teachers will be reimbursed for travel costs. It is therefore essential that each teacher brings the following to the workshop:
8.1.1 His or her Persal number
8.1.2 Registration details of the vehicle he or she is using for transport
8.1.3 Bank account details
8.2 Teachers must submit their claim forms to the venue managers at CPUT.
8.3 Teachers making use of public transport (bus and train services) must attach official receipts to their claims. Where teachers make use of mini-buses, claims must be accompanied by either receipts issued or a letter from their principal stating expense incurred. Each teacher must submit a separate verified claim.
8.4 No teacher will be reimbursed for travel expenses to the training venue from his or her holiday destination.
8.5 Teachers who do not make use of the hostel accommodation provided will NOT be reimbursed for any other accommodation expense incurred.

9. Teachers who do not register will, for logistical reasons, not be permitted to attend the training.

10. Principals are kindly requested to adhere to the submission date of 31st August 2007, ensure that teachers adhere to the registration requirements and bring the contents of this Curriculum minute to the attention of all Grade 10 to 12 teachers of CAT and IT.
