Learning Outcome 3 of Economic and Management Sciences focuses strongly on Accounting knowledge and skills, which are essential for learners who wish to offer Accounting in the FET band.

The Western Cape Education Department has developed Accounting: Preparation for Grade 10 resource materials and workbooks for learners, to address Learning Outcome 3 of Economic and Management Sciences.

The resources were piloted in the Business, Commerce and Management focus schools in 2006, and with Grade 8 and 9 Economic & Management Science teachers in January 2007. The response from both teachers and learners was very positive and encouraging.

The materials can be used in the following ways:

As a resource for the teaching, learning and assessment of Learning Outcome 3 in Economic and Management Sciences in Grades 8 and 9.

| 4.2 |
As a bridging programme at the end of Grade 9, after the completion of the writing of the CTAs, in preparation for Grade 10 for the learners who will be doing Accounting in Grade 10 in the next academic year.

The WCED trusts that the materials will strengthen the teaching of Economic & Management Sciences in Grade 9.
