A Western Cape Education Department (WCED) laboratory manual is to be distributed to all schools. It must be permanently stored in the Physical Sciences (or Natural Sciences) laboratory, in a place where it can be easily seen and accessed.

The purpose of the laboratory manual is to help schools achieve the WCED's goal of safety in school science by providing information on the restricted chemicals referred to in the WCED Policy and Protocol on Safety in School Science. The laboratory manual should therefore be viewed as an integral part of the WCED Policy and Protocol on Safety in School Science, which has already been sent to schools. (See Circular 0022/2004)

The laboratory manual is the property of the WCED and should not be removed from the laboratory or the school premises.
