1. Circular 0023/2006 announced the languages approved by the national DOE at second additional language level.
2. The Independent Examination Board (IEB) has announced that their Subject Assessment Guidelines (SAGs) have been approved by Umalusi. These guidelines will be followed in the examining of the non-official languages.
3. The SAGs for the non-official languages are available on the IEB website and hard copies can be obtained directly from the IEB by contacting Mr Bongani Mnguni at e-mail address mnguni@ieb.co.za or tel. no. 011 483 9700.
4. The IEB has indicated that they will hold a meeting for schools offering non-official languages in the Western Cape so as to familiarise teachers with IEB requirements. Details for the meeting are as follows: Date: 1 June 2007 Venue: Rustenburg Girls High School, Campground Road, Rondebosch. Time: 14:00 - 16:30

The WCED will meet the transport claims of WCED teachers who travel from outside Cape Town to this meeting.

5. The IEB will examine the following 2nd Additional Non-official Languages.
Arabic  Italian
French  Latin
German  Portuguese
Hebrew  Spanish

The following Home Languages and 1st Additional Languages will not be examined by the IEB from 2008 onward. Further information in this regard will follow in due course.

6. The IEB will offer German Home Language in 2008 only. In 2009, German Home Language will form part of the Arbitur-NSC combination qualification and thus will not be offered by the IEB.
