1. As part of the Mathematics, Science and Technology Strategy schools with Grade 8 and 9 learners are being provided with certain Technology equipment. This equipment is to assist Technology teachers in implementing the NCS Learning Area: Technology in a practical and learner-centred manner that shows the design process.

2. The Technology kit will be delivered to schools by the end of April 2007 and consists of the following:
  • 2 x solar power mechanical device

  • 2 x hydro pneumo back-hoe

  • 2 x electric dinosaur

  • 1 x English manual

  • 1 x Afrikaans manual.

3. On receipt of the Technology Kit, the following process must be put in place:
  • If any items are missing from the kit, please fax the details regarding the missing items to L. Malan at fax no: 021 467 2620 within 3 days of receiving the kit.

  • The kit must be added to the school's inventory.

  • The kit remains the property of the school.

  • The Technology head at the school must be informed of its arrival and contents.

  • The kit must be kept secure and a system must be put in place to minimise loss.

  • The kit must be available for use by all the Technology teachers at the school.

  • Any loss of the items in the kit must be recorded on the school's inventory.

4. Training in the use of the kit will be conducted by the Technology Curriculum Adviser at the relevant EMDC. The Technology Curriculum Adviser will notify the school of details in the course of this term.

5. The WCED is committed to making teaching and learning in the schools an active participatory experience and hopes that this kit will support the development of the Technology Assessment Standards on systems and control.
