1. Curriculum Minute 0071/2006 indicated that exemplar question papers for Grade 11 would be sent to all schools in the country. This initiative is a further attempt by the Department of Education to assist schools in preparation for the National Senior Certificate examinations in 2008.
2. Enclosed with this minute, please find the exemplar question papers and memoranda for Grade 11 as promised. [These documents are not 'enclosed' but are available electronically - see below]
2.1 The same exemplars are available on the web page of the Directorate: Curriculum Development at the following address: (http://curriculum.wcape.school.za/site/22/page/view/1250). The exemplars will also be available on a CD from Edumedia, telephone: 021 689 9536.
2.2 A complete set of all the papers has been provided to all schools.
2.3 Principals must ensure that the exemplars are utilised effectively by the subject teams, so that learners become familiar with the type of questions in and the skills required to answer a national question paper. The exemplars must, however, not be used as a formal examination during the year.
2.4 Schools are invited to comment on the national question papers by fax to the Director: Curriculum Development at 021 467 2620 or 021 467 2258. This can be done using the attached template for the grade 11 exemplars by no later than 25 May 2007. Schools may also e-mail their comments to jparbhoo@pgwc.gov.za.
3. The Western Cape Education Department wishes teachers and learners well during this exciting and challenging time of change in South African education.
