1. A copy of the provisional timetable for the 2007 Senior Certificate Examinations is attached.
2.

The dates on which certain question papers will be written have been determined by the national Department of Education (DoE) and are not subject to change, except by national consensus.

These question papers are the eleven national subjects, viz.:
  • Accounting HG and SG
  • Biology HG and SG
  • English Second Language HG and SG
  • History HG and SG
  • Mathematics HG and SG
  • Physical Science HG and SG
  • Geography HG and SG
  • Business Economics HG and SG
  • Economics HG and SG
  • Agricultural Science HG and SG
  • Afrikaans Second Language HG and SG
3. Subjects indicated as SG on the attached timetable are offered only on the Standard Grade. Subjects in the upper portion of each block are written in the morning, those in the lower portion in the afternoon.
4. Some candidates within the Western Cape Province enter for subjects that are examined by other Provincial Departments of Education (PDEs) and by the Independent Examinations Board (IEB). The WCED does not have a say in the scheduling of the examination dates of such papers. The WCED will incorporate the examination dates of the other PDEs and the IEB into the WCED timetable as soon as they have been received.
5. Principals are requested to inform the WCED (Head: Education, For attention: Mr TJ Magwaca, Western Cape Education Department, Private Bag X9114, Cape Town, 8000 or per fax to Mr TJ Magwaca at 021 467 2620) in writing, before Friday, 1 June 2007, of any clashes in the timetable, or of subjects that may have been omitted. If a principal requests the shift of a subject or paper from the date specified, he or she must propose a date when that subject or paper may be written. However, the shifting of a subject or paper will be considered only if it will not have a negative impact on the majority of candidates affected by the shift.
6. It must be borne in mind that this is a provisional timetable that is subject to change. The final examination timetable will be sent to all institutions towards the end of the third term, after the initial processing of examination entries.
7. Heads are requested to inform all Senior Certificate candidates that they must be available until the last day of the 4th school term, in case it should be necessary to reschedule the writing of a particular examination paper.
