Associated Board of the Royal Schools of Music

2. |
Learning Outcome 1 (Performance and presentation) and Learning Outcome 2 (Improvisation, arrangement and composition) are the practical components of the subject, Music (as listed in the NCS).

Learners have various choices of musical instruments. However, schools are not always in a position to offer all instruments. Therefore, learners may receive tuition in their instrument of choice either privately or at one of the WCED music centres.
4. |
If full-time learners take lessons at one of the music centres or with private teachers, the following requirements must be met:
(a) |
The principal of the school where the learner is registered as a full-time learner must be informed of this arrangement and ensure that the subject is included on the registration form for the National Senior Certificate.
(b) |
Internal assessment must be conducted as stipulated in the Subject Assessment Guidelines and the National Protocol for Assessment for Grades R-12.
(c) |
Private teachers and music centres must send the learner's results to the school where the learner is registered full-time.
(d) |
The principal of the school where the learner is registered full-time is responsible for collating the internal assessment marks of the learner and the completion and submission of the appropriate mark sheets.
(e) |
The principal must ensure that moderation of the learner's work is done according to the requirements of the WCED.
(f) |
All financial costs for private tuition and instruments must be borne by the parents.
