The Directorate: Institutional Management and Governance Planning [IMGP] was responsible for organising the School Governing Body [SGB] Conference held on 30 September 2006. IMGP wishes to express its sincere appreciation to those SGB members and principals who attended the conference and made it such a rewarding experience.

At the conference, the Directorate: IMGP undertook to make the documents on the topics that were presented available to all schools and SGBs.

These documents, plus some additional information, have been compiled into files and are being distributed to all schools, via the EMDCs. Additional topics may be added to these reference files in future and topics updated as required.

The reference files are for use by both the school and the SGB members and should be kept at the school. When somebody borrows the file for reference purposes, a record must be kept of the name of the person borrowing the file, the date on which the file was borrowed and the borrower's signature. When the borrower returns the file, the principal or his or her delegate must sign for receipt of the file in the register.

The files currently contain only English versions of the documents. However, the documents are currently being translated into Afrikaans and Xhosa and these translations will be distributed at a later date. Each school will thus have an English version and a second version in the official language of its choice.

Schools and SGBs are requested to complete the request form attached to this minute so as to indicate in which language they wish to receive the second file. Please fax the completed form to Mr S Philander, Directorate: IMGP at fax no. (021) 467-2268.
