1. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is proud to be associated with the National Teaching Awards, which recognise excellence in education.
2. Nomination guides and nomination forms have been distributed to all WCED institutions, as well as to ABET and ECD centres. If your school or centre has not received these documents, you are requested to obtain them from the relevant EMDC co-ordinators (listed below) or from Head Office. They may also be downloaded from the website of the Directorate: Human Resource Development at http://www.hrd.wcape.school.za
3. Your attention is drawn to the following extracts from the nomination guide:

“The principal/centre manager must organise a nomination meeting that would include the School Governing Body (SGB)/Centre Governing Body (CGB) to discuss the nomination process.”

"The staff and the SGB/CGB members of the school/centre must study the criteria requirements of each category and draw up attributes or qualities that would match their nominees with a particular given criteria.”

“Once suitable teachers/teams have been nominated, their names must be filled in on the Nomination Forms provided.”
4. A team should consist of not more than five educators.
5. Principals and centre managers are compelled to hold the nomination meeting in the first week of the third school term, and not later than 21 July 2006. Minutes of the meeting must be kept.
6. Principals and centre managers must complete and submit the attached Annexure A to the circuit manager, for the attention of the relevant EMDC co-ordinator.
7. Nomination forms must be submitted to the EMDCs, for the attention of the relevant EMDC co-ordinator:
