1. The Western Cape Education Department invites all principals, school management teams, school governing bodies, teachers, parents and learners to nominate serving and retired mathematics and science teachers in their communities for the 2006 Aggrey Klaaste Mathematics, Science and Technology Educator of the Year Awards.
2. The main sponsors of these awards for excellence in the teaching of these crucial subjects are The Telkom Foundation and The Sowetan.
3. Please note the following important information regarding nominations:
3.1 A nomination form is included with this minute. Photocopies of this nomination form will be accepted.
3.2 Nominations are invited for teachers in the following categories:
(i) Practising educator: FET Phase (Grades 10 -12)
(ii) Practising educator: GET Phase (Grades 4 - 9)
(iii) Retired educator
3.3 Please ensure that the nomination form is completed in full.
3.4 Nominators must use the nomination criteria on the nomination form to assess whether the nominee meets the requirements for consideration for an award.
3.5 The nominee’s portfolio may be submitted with the nomination, but this is not a requirement for the EMDC adjudication. However, the recipient of an EMDC award who is to be considered for a provincial award, will be expected to prepare a portfolio.
3.6 Completed nomination forms must be sent to the chief curriculum adviser at your EMDC, clearly labelled “For the attention: Chief Curriculum Adviser - Maths, Science and Technology Educator of the Year Awards 2006”. The closing date for the submission of nominations is 25 August 2006.
4. The recipients of provincial awards in the three categories will be considered for national awards, which will be presented in Johannesburg on 22 March 2007.
5. Please refer to the back of the nomination form for a description of the prizes that will be awarded at provincial and national levels.
