The Speaker of the National Assembly and the Chairperson of the National Council of Provinces have requested the Minister of Education to consider and assist with encouraging all schools to afford all learners the opportunity to observe and/or listen to the delivery of the President’s State of the Nation Address.

The South African Broadcasting Corporation will be televising and broadcasting the Presidential Address, which will last for 45 minutes, live on Friday 3 February 2006 between 11:00 and 12:00.

The Minister of Education has therefore requested that principals allow all educators and learners to view and/or listen to the proceedings. Educators must, however, make this an educational experience by giving learners definite and structured assignments relating to the Address.
