1. The website of the Directorate: Labour Relations (DLR), which was launched in 2003, has recently been upgraded and overhauled.  A number of enhancements and changes have been made to improve service delivery and to ensure greater user-friendliness.  Some of the features that you will find on the improved site are the following:
1.1 Additions
  The following sections/pages have been added:
  • A legal framework section that provides information on  (a) enabling legislation,  (b) arbitration awards and  (c) selected Public Service Co-ordinating Bargaining Council (PSCBC), Co-ordinating Chamber of the PSCBC for the Western Cape Province (CCPWCP), Education Labour Relations Council (ELRC) and Provincial Education Labour Relations Council (PELRC) collective agreements

  • A related websites section that provides information on  (a) the Western Cape Education Department (WCED)’s social partners, namely the unions, school governing body (SGB) associations and education forums,  (b) bargaining councils for both public service (PS) personnel and college and school (CS) educators,  (c) relevant government departments – both national and provincial and  (d) non-governmental organisations (NGOs), namely the Public Service Commission (PSC), South African Council of Educators (SACE) and Council for Conciliation, Mediation and Arbitration (CCMA)

  • A relevant labour policies section that provides information on  (a) national,  (b) provincial,  (c) WCED and  (d) DLR policies

  • A section that provides statistics on  (a) grievances and disputes,  (b) misconduct and  (c) strikes

  • A glossary of acronyms that are most frequently used within the public education and public labour relations fields

  • More information on DLR in the form of its vision, mission statement, organogram and contact telephone numbers

1.2 Enhancement
  The contact pages of the DLR website were enhanced to include an interactive map and direct links to officials dealing with  (a) grievances and disputes,  (b) misconduct and  (c) collective bargaining, as well as links to DLR’s support staff.

1.3 Expansion
  The following sections/pages were retained, but were significantly expanded:
  • Labour related circulars and minutes

  • DLR’s quarterly newsletter

  • Training resources, including workshops and forums
