1. RE-MARKING OF SCRIPTS

Candidates' scripts may be re-marked in the following cases:

1.1 A candidate who failed one or more subjects in the Senior Certificate Examinations may have his or her script(s) in such subject(s) re-marked.
1.2 A candidate who passed the Senior Certificate examination, but who failed to obtain in one or more subjects the standard necessary for a particular purpose (e.g. matriculation exemption, a bursary or the special requirements of a tertiary institution), may, with the approval of the Department, have his or her script(s) in such subject(s) re-marked. The reason for requesting the re-mark must be given in writing on a separate sheet of paper and must accompany the application. Applications not accompanied by the aforementioned will not be considered. (Note that the Department will be prepared to agree to the re-marking of scripts in a subject in which a candidate has failed to obtain 40% only for the purpose of obtaining matriculation endorsement and/or when a bursary is at stake.)
1.3 The Department may, at its discretion, permit the re-marking of the script(s) of a candidate who has passed the Senior Certificate Examinations if there is a difference of at least two symbols between the September marks awarded by the school and the marks scored in the Departmental examination.
1.4 Should a candidate pass five or six subjects, but fail the aggregate, the Department may, at its discretion, permit the re-marking of such a candidate's script(s).
1.5 A candidate who obtained an aggregate of 1680 marks or more in the school's September examination and no fewer than 1660 marks in the Senior Certificate Examinations, may have a subject or all the subjects re-marked.
1.6 A candidate who obtained an A symbol in a subject in the school's September examination and one symbol lower in the subject in the Senior Certificate Examinations may have that subject re-marked.
1.7 APPLICATIONS FOR RE-MARKING OF SCRIPTS, TOGETHER WITH THE PRESCRIBED FEE OF R70.00 PER SUBJECT, SHOULD REACH THE DEPARTMENT NOT LATER THAN THIRTY (30) DAYS AFTER THE EXAMINATION RESULTS ARE OFFICIALLY RELEASED. NO APPLICATION FOR THE RE-MARKING OF SCRIPTS WILL BE CONSIDERED UNLESS THE PRESCRIBED AMOUNT ACCOMPANIES THE APPLICATION WITHIN THE STIPULATED PERIOD.
1.8 The closing date for applications to re-mark November 2006 examination scripts is 31 January 2007.
1.9 EACH CANDIDATE WILL BE NOTIFIED OF THE RESULT OF HIS OR HER RE-MARK. NO RESULTS WILL BE MADE KNOWN TELEPHONICALLY BEFORE 15 MARCH 2007. .

2.2 An application to have scripts re-checked must be made within 30 days of the announcement of the examination results. The fee is R12.00 per subject and it is not refundable.
2.3 Applicants will be notified by letter about the results of the re-checking of scripts. Where applicable, an amended Advice of Results will be issued.

3. VIEWING OF SCRIPTS
3.1 If not satisfied with the outcome of a re-mark, candidates may view their scripts at a fee of R150.00 per subject. The fee is not refundable.
3.2 A written request, giving reasons for the request, must be submitted to the Head of Education within thirty (30) days of being notified of the results of the re-marking of scripts.
3.3 A candidate and/or his or her parent(s) or guardian will be allowed to view the script(s) concerned and may, as a result thereof, lodge a complaint within a period of seven days. The Department will then take a final decision on the results.

N.B. Applications for the viewing of scripts, together with the prescribed fee, must reach the Department within thirty (30) days of receiving the result of a re-mark. NO APPLICATIONS WILL BE CONSIDERED AFTER THAT DATE.

4. REFUNDING OF REMARKING FEE
