To support the implementation of the Further Education and Training National Curriculum Statements (NCS), the WCED will offer a number of specialised subject related workshops during the last week of the coming December-January school holidays, i.e. from 8 to 12 January 2007 (refer Curriculum Minute 0091/20060).

The purpose of the January workshops is to provide a focussed support programme to enable teachers to support NCS implementation in Grades 10 and 11.

Annexure A provides detailed information on the subjects involved, including dates, times, venues and contact details.

Teachers attending this workshop must register with Head Office. The attached registration form (Annexure B) must be submitted to Mr J. Randewijk at e-mail address jrandewijk@pgwc.gov.za or via fax no. 021 467 2258 by 30 November 2006. For further information please contact Mr J. Randewijk at tel. no. 021 467 2564/2585.

For logistical reasons, teachers who do not register will, unfortunately, not be permitted to attend the workshop.

Workshop requirements
Teachers are requested to bring the following policy and guideline documents, which have already been distributed to schools, to the subject orientation workshop:

Subject assessment guidelines
National Protocol on Assessment
Guidelines for ICT Integration with NCS Subjects in Grades 10 - 12
New textbooks or other relevant subject material

Teachers wishing to claim transport expenses must bring the following information to the workshop:

Teachers making use of public transport (bus and train services) must attach official receipts to their claims. Where teachers make use of minibus taxis, claims must be accompanied by either receipts issued or a letter from the school principal verifying the expenditure incurred. Each teacher must submit a separate verified claim.

Column 7 of the attached Annexure A provides information on accommodation. Teachers from the rural areas travelling 100 km or more (one way) to reach the venue, may stay over each night for the duration of the workshop. Teachers will be reimbursed for such expenses, on condition that copies of the original invoices are submitted. Claims must be submitted to the workshop facilitator on the last day of the workshop. The WCED will not, however, reimburse teachers for private telephone calls or alcoholic beverages.

Principals are kindly requested to
adhere to the registration date of 30 November 2006;
ensure that teachers are informed of the workshop requirements; and
bring the contents of this Curriculum Minute to the attention of all Grade 10 to 12 teachers teaching the subjects indicated on Annexure A.
