1. The 2006 International Art Competition has been organised this year by the National Centre for Childrens' Culture in the Egyptian Ministry of Culture.
2. The art competition is open to all learners between the ages of 4 and 18 years. The theme of the competition is Egypt through the eyes of the children of the world.
3. The closing date for submission of entries is 30 November 2006.

5. The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) supports this initiative as it provides learners with the opportunity to display internationally their visual arts, design skills and creativity.
6. Arts & Culture teachers are encouraged to use the competition theme to strengthen and enrich the GET Arts and Culture curriculum (Grades R - 9).
7. Learners attending WCED's new Arts & Culture Focus Schools and those who are following the GET Arts & Culture specialised learning pathway (Visual Arts) in Grades 8 & 9 are especially encouraged to participate in this competition.
8. In order to fulfil the competition brief, all Grade 10-12 competition entrants studying Visual Arts or Design will be expected to research Egypt's culture and heritage, as well as its unique contribution to art, architecture, design and craft, thereby supporting the implementation of the new FET syllabus for Visual Arts and Design.
