The national Department of Education (DoE)’s list of learning and teaching support materials (LTSM) for Grade 11 in 2007 is enclosed.

The DoE and the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) wish to ensure that LTSM of good quality are used in schools. To achieve this, publishers were requested to submit their Grade 11 textbooks for evaluation and an evaluation of them was undertaken by the DoE.

Given the number of items involved and the type of information included, the list of approved materials is tabulated to make it easy to read. The subjects are listed in alphabetical order (including languages), beginning with Accounting and ending with Visual Arts. Within each subject, titles are arranged under their respective publishers, with the publishers arranged in alphabetical order. The content subjects are grouped into the language mediums in which they were submitted and approved.

It is important to note that, in addition to textbooks, there are various other types of material in the list aimed at supporting teachers and learners to achieve syllabus outcomes. The types of material included are the following:

When purchasing or requisitioning these books, schools should carefully consider which components of the package or set are essential and calculate the price of that set.

Kindly note that, apart from special projects, WCED schools are free to select books of their choice, and that the attached list is not prescriptive and is meant as a guide.
