1. The WCED introduced a packaged modular curriculum for ABET levels 1 - 3 in 2006 (Curriculum Development Minute 0082/2005).
2. The modular structure indicated that all assessment will be site-based and thus no provincial examinations will be held for ABET levels 2 and 3 as has been done over the past four years.
3. Assessment for the ABET levels 1 - 3 will include the following:
3.1 Baseline assessment for learners entering a module to determine their learning needs and to identify the possible barriers to learning
3.2 Continuous assessment as part of the normal teaching and learning process
3.3 A capability task which indicates the learner’s overall competency in the module
4. The portfolio of the learner should include the following:
4.1 Learner’s personal information
4.2 Record of assessment for the learner
4.3 Declaration of authenticity by the learner
4.4 All capability tasks completed by the learner and marked by the educator
5. Support with regard to assessment for ABET levels 1 - 3 can be obtained from the EMDC curriculum advisers.
6. Please bring the contents of this minute to the attention of all educators and learners.
