1. Life Orientation, a fundamental subject offering in the FET band to which all learners in Grades 10 to 12 will be exposed, has four focus areas, i.e. Personal Well-being, Citizenship Education, Recreation and Physical Activity, and Careers and Career Choices.
2. Training courses on the content of Learning Outcome 1 (Personal Well-being) were offered during March and April 2005 and during the school holidays in January 2006.
3. All schools, whether their teachers attended the training courses or not, have received an educator’s manual, a learner’s book, a CD ROM and a video cassette containing the course material on the content of Learning Outcome 1 (Personal Well-being)
4. Data collected at the training sessions indicates that a number of schools attended neither of these training sessions.
5. The WCED has, therefore, decided to offer another training session on Personal Well-being in each of the EMDCs. The dates and the times for these training sessions will be arranged by the master trainers at each EMDC.
6. The EMDCs will notify schools of the training dates and administer registration for the training sessions.
7. Two Grade 10-12 Life Orientation teachers per school, who have not been trained on this learning outcome, may attend this training session.
8. Teachers will be reimbursed for travelling expenses. Those who intend to claim must have the following information available at the course:

  • PERSAL number

  • Engine capacity of the vehicle used and year of manufacture

  • The distance in kilometres from their school to the venue
9. Teachers from rural EMDCs who require accommodation must make their own arrangements. Suitable bed and breakfast accommodation is recommended. These teachers must submit their claims for accommodation expenses before they leave on the last day of the course.
