1. Facing History and Ourselves (FHAO), Boston, USA is offering an eight-week online course for international educators on ‘Holocaust and Human Behaviour’, starting on 9 February 2006. The online course provides an overview of the rise of the Nazis and the Holocaust, and also makes connections to other histories, such as those of Rwanda and South Africa.
2. The online course and the methodologies used by FHAO support the NCS Social Sciences and History and will provide participating teachers with relevant content, history source material for classroom use and innovative teaching approaches. Participants in a FHAO course are given access to their online campus, which has a further range of appropriate classroom resources relevant to Grade 9 and FET History. History teachers are encouraged to make use of this exciting opportunity for extending their subject knowledge and classroom expertise, and for sharing local experience with international practitioners.
3. Further information, including descriptions of the course and the registration procedure, can be found at http://www.facinghistory.org, where you should click on Institutions, Workshops and Online Courses to access the information. There is a course fee, but FHAO have several scholarships available.
4. Course participants must be prepared to spend four hours of work a week on each of the eight sessions. Please make reference to this Curriculum Minute if you register for the course.
