1. The teaching assistants will be attending a course at Further Education and Training Colleges from April to October 2006. This course focuses on their roles and responsibilities and how to give effective support to Foundation Phase learners.
2. Class teachers who are supported by teaching assistants, as well as their school principals, are expected to attend orientation sessions on Friday, 9 June 2006 from 13:00 to 16:30 and on Saturday, 10 June 2006 from 08:00 to 16:00. The purpose of these sessions is to familiarise principals and teachers with the teaching assistant course content. A copy of the two-day programme is attached.
3. These orientation sessions will be held at the same campuses where the teaching assistants will be attending their classes and will be presented by the college lecturers.
4. Schools are requested to complete the attached reply slip and return it, via fax, by Thursday, 25 May 2006.
5. Those attending the course will be reimbursed for their travel expenses, but we appeal strongly to them to share transport where possible.
6. The WCED is confident that principals and teachers will benefit from these sessions, and so attendance at these sessions is strongly recommended.
7. Principals are kindly requested to bring this information to the attention of Foundation Phase teachers.
