1. National Science Week, an initiative of the Department of Science and Technology, will take place from 13 to 20 May 2006. The theme for 2006 is “Tomorrow’s Science and Technology are in our youth’s hands”.
2. The objectives of National Science Week are to
  • create awareness of the role of science in society;

  • improve learner performance and encourage them to study science and mathematics; and

  • attract more learners into careers in science, engineering and technology.

3. The following service providers have been contracted to present activities for learners, educators and the general public:

5. Principals are urgently requested to inform all Science educators and learners at their schools about National Science Week 2006 and to encourage them to attend the various activities.
