Grade 9 Mathematics Assessment Tasks
1.1 |
The Mathematics curriculum advisers at the EMDCs will be handing out a copy of each of 2 books with examples of Grade 9 assessment tasks to a Mathematics teacher from every school with Grade 9 classes at a cluster meeting during this term (second term).
1.2 |
These books are intended to assist Grade 9 Mathematics teachers in setting standards and to give them examples of the different forms of assessment required by the National Protocol on Assessment.
1.3 |
The examples were collected from teachers during the verification process in 2005 and have been printed as received from the schools. Teachers wishing to use these assessment tasks in their classes should therefore check for errors.
1.4 |
If your school has not received the books by the end of the second term, please contact the Mathematics curriculum adviser at your EMDC.
1.5 |
Curriculum advisers hope to receive further examples from teachers during 2006, so that a further book can be printed in 2007. Assessment tasks submitted electronically will be put on the curriculum website: http://curriculum.wcape.school.za under Mathematics (GET) in 2007.
1.6 |
The WCED thanks those teachers who submitted assessment tasks in 2005.

CD on Mathematics Illustrative Examples
2.1 |
During the NCS Grade 8 and 9 Orientation Course from 10 to 14 July, a Mathematics teacher from each school will receive and sign for a CD.
2.2 |
The CD gives illustrative examples for each of the NCS Mathematics Assessment Standards from Grade R to 9 to assist teachers in the interpretation of the Assessment Standards.
2.3 |
Teachers are advised that these illustrative examples are just a guide and that the CD does not replace the textbook. If a teacher only covers the examples on the CD, the learners will not have covered the curriculum thoroughly enough.
The WCED hopes that this material will assist teachers in the implementation of the NCS in 2007.
