1. Circular 0066/2005 of November 2005 and Curriculum Development Minute 0013/2006 of February 2006 refer to the orientation courses to be held for teachers of Grades 8 and 9.
2. Orientation courses in each of the eight learning areas will be held for all Grade 8 and 9 teachers for 5 days from 10 to 14 July 2006. A further 4-day course in each of the eight learning areas will be offered for those teachers who teach a second learning area from 26 to 29 September 2006. Schools have registered teachers for these courses.
3. The attached Annexure A provides a list of venues for the Grade 8 and 9 NCS Orientation courses per EMDC.
4. You are reminded of the following:
  • The programme is tailored to meet the needs of Grade 8 and 9 teachers to implement the NCS in Grade 8 and 9 in 2007.

  • Only teachers who have confirmed attendance through prior registration are expected to attend. (This procedure is necessary for planning purposes.)

  • Please note that all workshops will start at 08:00 and end at 16:00 every day except Friday, when closure will be at 13:00.

  • Light refreshments will be provided.

  • Transport claims for WCED paid educators must be completed in full at the workshop.

  • Participants are requested to bring the documentation indicated in paragraph 6, as well as a pen and notepaper.

5. Certificates of attendance will be issued in due course to teachers who
  • provide proof of their Persal numbers (WCED employees) or their ID numbers (SGB employees), by bringing a photocopy of a salary slip or an ID document; and

  • are present for the full duration of the course and sign the daily register of attendance.

6. In order to achieve maximum benefit from this workshop, teachers are earnestly requested to study the following documents prior to the workshop:
  • The Overview of the Revised National Curriculum Statement (Policy);

  • The Learning Area Statement (Policy) for the learning programme that they will be developing; and

  • The Teacher’s Guide for the Development of Learning Programmes for the learning programme that they will be developing.

Teachers must bring these documents to the July and September courses.

7. The EMDCs will inform schools which venues their teachers should attend.
