Schools were informed in Circular 0011/2006 of the advertisements for 510 teaching assistant positions at selected schools. This provision is for a pilot project to be conducted in a number of contexts, and various criteria were applied in selecting 163 schools. The Department regrets that more schools could not be included.

This project, which is in response to the literacy and numeracy needs of the province, will run from March to November 2006.

The project will be carefully monitored and evaluated to determine its sustainability.
