As stated in Curriculum Development Minute 0008/2006, learners in the Western Cape are being given access to computers and other digital resources as an integral part of their education and their preparation for the National Senior Certificate. Learners taking Computer Applications Technology and Information Technology are already using computers. Learners taking the following subjects will be compelled to complete sections of their curriculum on computer from 2007: Accounting, Civil Technology, Design, Electrical Technology, Engineering Graphics and Design, Geography, Life Orientation, Mechanical Technology, Tourism and Visual Arts. Digital resources also add value to the teaching of other subjects.

An English copy of Guidelines for ICT Integration with NCS Subjects in Grades 10-12 will be posted to schools free of charge to assist in the incorporation of ICTs in teaching and learning. The topics include general use of ICTs across all FET subjects; the use of ICTs in each specific subject; educational software and how to evaluate it; the use of the Internet in each subject; and digital resources being provided by the WCED. It will also be possible to download this document from the Digital Resources website at http://curriculum.wcape.school.za/site/113 when the site is made public during the month of March.

Schools may order a copy of the Guidelines in Afrikaans, free of charge, by completing the order form accompanying the Guidelines and faxing it to Edumedia.

Schools may also order further copies in either English or Afrikaans from Edumedia at the cost stated on the order form.
