1. Life Orientation, a subject in the FET band which all learners in Grades 10 to 12 are required to take, has four focus areas: Personal Well-being, Citizenship Education, Recreation and Physical Activity, and Careers and Career Choices.
2. Training courses in the Careers and Career Choices focus area are to be offered from 6 to 8 April 2006, as indicated in Curriculum Development Minute: 0074/2005.
2.1 The PACE: Advise and Refer course, which is an accredited course on Level 5 of the NQF, is aimed at training teachers to assist learners to make informed subject and career choices.
2.2 Presentations will be both paper- and computer-based. Participants will be awarded six credits on completion of the portfolio and will have to complete follow-up assignments for their portfolios, provided they have already completed the initial PACE: World of Work course.
3. Two teachers per school may attend this second round of training in PACE: Advise and Refer. Please refer to Annexure B for the venues. The course will commence promptly at 08:30 and end at 16:00 on each of the three training days. Teachers who register for the course will be required to attend on all three days.
4. Teachers will be reimbursed for travel expenses and those who intend to claim for these expenses must have the following information available at the course:
  • PERSAL number

  • Engine capacity of the vehicle used

  • Vehicle’s year of manufacture

  • Distance in kilometres between school and training venue

5. Teachers from rural EMDC districts who require accommodation must make their own arrangements. Suitable bed and breakfast accommodation is recommended. These educators may submit their claims for accommodation expenses on the last day of the course before they leave.
6. Principals are requested to return the completed registration form, attached as Annexure A, to the Life Orientation curriculum adviser at their local EMDC by 10 March 2006. Please refer to Annexure C for contact details.
7. Principals are reminded that attendance at these courses may be taken into account when completing teachers' IQMS forms.
