1. A copy of the provisional timetable for the 2006 Senior Certificate Examinations is attached.
2. The dates on which certain question papers will be written have been determined by the national Department of Education (DoE) and are not subject to change, except by national consensus.

These question papers are the eleven national subjects, viz.:

  • Accounting HG and SG

  • Biology HG and SG

  • English Second [First Additional] Language HG and SG

  • History HG and SG

  • Mathematics HG and SG

  • Physical Science HG and SG

  • Geography HG and SG

  • Business Economics HG and SG

  • Economics HG and SG

  • Agricultural Science HG and SG

  • Afrikaans Second Language HG and SG

3. Subjects indicated as SG on the attached timetable are offered only on the Standard Grade. Subjects in the upper portion of each block are written in the morning, those in the lower portion in the afternoon.
4. Where possible, the WCED will try to accommodate candidates who also enter for certain subjects examined by the DoE (N-Subjects) and by other examining bodies, e.g. the Independent Examining Board (IEB). Preference will, however, be given to candidates writing WCED papers.
5. Principals are requested to inform the WCED (Head: Education, For attention: Mr TJ Magwaca, Western Cape Education Department, Private Bag X9114, Cape Town, 8000 or per fax to Mr TJ Magwaca at (021 467 2620) in writing, before Friday, 26 May 2005, of any clashes in the timetable, or of subjects that may have been omitted. If a principal requests the shift of a subject or paper from the date specified, he or she must propose the date when that subject or paper may be written. However, the shifting of a subject or paper will be considered only if it will not have a negative impact on the majority of candidates affected by the shift.
6. The practical components of the examinations for Computer Studies HG and SG fall within the official examination period.
7. Examination dates for subjects taught at WCED educational institutions, but examined by other examining bodies, will be determined later. This may necessitate adjustments to the timetable.
8. It must be borne in mind that this is a provisional timetable that is subject to change. The final examination timetable will be sent to all institutions towards the end of the third term, after the initial processing of examination entries.
9. Heads are requested to inform all Senior Certificate candidates that they must be available until the last day of the 4th school term, in case it should be necessary to reschedule the writing of a particular examination paper.
