1. The WCED has purchased a provincial licence for Rubricate software. All schools in the Western Cape, whether public or independent, may install and use it, and their teachers may install it on their laptops/home computers.
2. Rubricate (Senior for high schools and Junior for primary schools) is assessment software based entirely on the learning outcomes and assessment standards of the NCS. It enables teachers to create rubrics in all learning areas from grades R - 9 and in a number of subjects in grades 10 -12.
3. In addition to being a powerful and flexible rubric-making tool, it can assist teachers to make the transition from traditional methods of assessment to outcomes-based assessment, as well as to familiarise themselves with the curriculum content of the NCS policy documents.
4. To support the use of this assessment software in schools, two one-day workshops will be offered on 20 and 27 January 2007.
5. Two teachers per school from the Mathematics, Natural Sciences or Technology learning areas are invited to register for the full-day session on either of the dates listed.
6. The workshops will be held at the Centre for e-Innovation's IT Labs at Kuils River Education Multicentre from 8:30 to 15:00.
7. Accommodation will be provided as required, and the transport costs of teachers travelling more than 50km will be covered. For further details contact Ms A Lowenherz at 021 467 2621/2529 or email: alowen@pgwc.gov.za.
8. Please bring the contents of this minute to the attention of all teachers concerned. Teachers who would like to attend are asked to complete the form at Annexure A and return it by fax to Ms A Lowenherz at 021 467 2620 by Wednesday, 6 December 2006.
