1. The Global Campaign for Education, supported by UNESCO, has declared the week of 24 to 30 April 2005 to be EFA week.
2. The purpose of this campaign is to make education accessible to all children.
3. The theme of EFA Week 2005 is "Send my Friend to School". Children and adult learners are requested to make life-size cut-outs of people (friends) from cardboard or fabric to symbolise the 104 million out-of-school children and 800 million illiterate adults, and to decorate these “friends” with slogans such as “The doors of learning and culture shall be open”, “Educate to stop AIDS’ and “Education to stop child labour”.
4. Institutions are requested to invite prominent guests and members of the community to sign pledges on these cut-outs during the EFA week.
5. More information on this campaign is available on the website: http://www.campaignforeducation.org
6. Please bring the contents of this circular to the attention of all concerned.
