The Western Cape Education Department encourages all heads, school management teams, school governing bodies, educators, parents and learners to nominate serving and retired Mathematics and Science educators in their communities for the Aggrey Klaaste Mathematics, Science and Technology Teacher of the Year Awards.

The main sponsors of this awards programme, which recognises and awards excellence in the teaching of these crucial subjects, are The Telkom Foundation and the Sowetan.

Please take note of the following important information regarding the nomination process:
|
| 3.1 |
A nomination form is included with this minute. Photocopies of the nomination form will also be accepted.
|
| 3.2 |
Nominees must be entered in one of the following three categories:
| (i) |
Practising educator: FET phase (Gr 10 12)
|
| (ii) |
Practising educator: GET phase (Gr 4 9)
|
|
| 3.3 |
Please ensure that the nomination form is completed correctly. Please do not omit any information.
|
| 3.4 |
Nominators must use the nomination criteria on the nomination form to assess whether the nominee meets the requirements for the awards programme.
|
| 3.5 |
The nominee may submit a portfolio together with the nomination, but this is not a requirement for the EMDC adjudication. An EMDC finalist progressing to the provincial finals will, however, be expected to prepare a portfolio.

| 3.6 |
The closing date for the submission of nomination forms is 28 October 2005. Completed nomination forms must be sent to the Chief Curriculum Adviser at your EMDC, clearly marked For the attention: The Chief Curriculum Adviser - Maths, Science and Technology Educator of the Year Awards 2005.

The provincial winners in the three categories will progress to the national finals, which will be held in Johannesburg on 25 March 2006.

Please refer to the back of the nomination form for an explanation of the prizes that can be won at the provincial and national levels.
