The local government elections will be held in due course and in the interest of democracy the Western Cape Education Department has been requested to assist once again by making school buildings and other education facilities available as polling booths for the elections. Should schools and colleges therefore be approached in this regard, the Department will not have any objection to their granting such permission.

With a view to the security of staff and students/learners as well as the protection of school/college property, compensation for damage, etc., a prior agreement must, however, be drawn up between the municipality/local authority concerned and the school/college.

Heads of educational institutions are requested to bring the contents of this minute to the attention of their advisory councils/governing bodies.
