The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) has been informed via the Department of the Premier that Cosatu has called and urged its allies and members to support its “Jobs and Poverty” campaign by participating in a day-long stay away. |

The Cosatu protest action is planned for Monday, 3 October 2005 in the Western Cape.

In order to prepare for a possible stay away on the aforementioned date, managers/heads of institutions must put processes in place to ensure the continuous functioning of the directorates and institutions. Please note, where managers/heads of institutions intend participating in the stay away themselves, it is the duty of the relevant supervisor/circuit manager to ensure that these processes are in place.

Your attention is drawn to the Labour Relations Minutes Nos 001 and 002 of 2004, which give a clear indication of the correct procedures to be followed. |

However, the following points are brought to your attention:

In view of the above, it would be appreciated if all managers/heads of institutions could complete the attached annexures and submit them to the Directorate: Labour Relations, via the relevant EMDC (for all institutions), for attention: CR Esau, fax no 425 8612 or e-mail cesau@pgwc.gov.za, as soon as possible but not later than Wednesday, 5 October 2005. Kindly note that the annexures must be completed, even if nobody from your directorate/institution participated in the stay away, as the information is required by the Department of the Premier and Public Service and Administration. |
