Attached please find a copy of White Paper No. 7 on e-Education - Transforming Learning and Teaching through Information and Communication Technologies (ICT). The goal of the policy is to transform all schools in the country into e-schools, i.e. schools that use ICTs to enhance teaching and learning; use ICTs to plan, manage and administer themselves; and use ICT resources to support curriculum delivery.

The national and provincial Departments of Education have developed or are in the process of developing detailed implementation plans for this policy. These implementation plans will be made available to schools as soon as they have been finalised. The Khanya Technology in Education Project currently being implemented in the Western Cape forms part of the WCED’s implementation plan.

The implementation process also requires that a baseline study be conducted and that schools be monitored on a regular basis to determine whether they are progressing towards e-school status. Once the baseline and monitoring instruments have been finalised these will be circulated to all schools.

You are requested to study the attached policy document so as to determine the impact that the implementation of this policy will have on your school.
