NB: THIS FORM MUST BE RETURNED TO HEAD OFFICE VIA THE EMDC-DIRECTOR.

In view of various problems experienced annually in obtaining appropriate examination accommodation for private learners, as well as the earlier closing date, you are approached at this early stage regarding examination accommodation for private learners.

The W.C.E.D. endeavours to take available services and assistance to the communities as far as possible and you are requested to keep the following in mind when completing the accompanying addendum.

Private learners as you are aware, are learners who, for various reasons, could not complete their education, are not affiliated to any school and who - often under difficult circumstances - educate themselves to enable them to make a positive contribution to society.

When they register for the Senior Certificate examination, private learners indicate an examination centre near their home or workplace. Others prefer to write at their “old” school.

Principals are therefore kindly requested to assist these learners in their efforts by allowing them to write their examination at the school of their choice so that it would only be necessary to place them in combined examination centres in exceptional circumstances. Combined centres cause many to travel long distances to write the examination. Often they are unemployed and simply cannot afford travelling expenses. They also find it difficult to comprehend that they have to travel long distances to write the examination whilst they live close to a school. (NB: IT IS IMPORTANT THAT THE FORM BE RETURNED IRRESPECTIVE IF YOU HAVE ACCOMMODATION OR NOT)

After the completion of the attached annexure by principals it must be sent to the various EMDC- offices. EMDC- Directors and Circuit Managers must please note the responses and after that ensure that the form reach the Directorate: Examinations no later than 29 April 2005 by fax to number 021 461 5637, or E-mail to Samuel Adams (sadams@pgwc.gov.za), or deliver to the following address: For attention Mr. S.Adams, Room 515, Grand Central Towers, Lower Parliament Street, Cape Town.
