Following the approval of the Mathematics, Science and Technology (MST) Expansion Strategy by of the Council of Education Ministers, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) began a process of selecting 50 dedicated MST schools. This involved consultation with the EMDCs and teacher unions. |

The process resulted in the selection of two sets of schools:
40 Dinaledi schools, forming part of the national MST strategy 10 MST focus schools, forming part of the provincial MST strategy

The final 2 lists of schools were approved by the Head of Education on 3 October 2005 and are attached for your information. These schools are to become schools of excellence, which will provide a basis for further development and a true reflection of the DINALEDI slogan:
“Creating tomorrow’s stars today” |

The official launch by the MEC for Education will be on 29 October 2005 at the Cape
Academy for Mathematics, Science and Technology. |

The WCED congratulates these schools and trusts that all stakeholders will support them in their effort to become schools of excellence in the Western Cape. |
