1. In order to ensure improvement of standards in various Senior Certificate examinations and to prepare for the implementation of the National Senior Certificate (NSC) in 2008, the setting of national question papers will be extended in the 2006 Senior Certificate Examinations to include the following five subjects:
  • Geography HG & SG

  • Business Economics HG & SG

  • Economics HG & SG

  • Agricultural Science HG & SG

  • Afrikaans 2nd Language HG & SG

2. The Department of Education therefore invites applications for the posts of national examiners and internal moderators in the above subjects, as well as History HG & SG and English 2nd Language HG & SG.

Subject experts i.e. educators, curriculum advisers, senior curriculum planners, examiners and moderators with the necessary knowledge and expertise in the Senior Certificate are invited to apply. In order to be considered to serve on these panels, the applicant must have

  • at least a recognized 3-year post matric qualification, which must include the subject concerned at third-year level;

  • extensive experience as an educator in the particular subject or in a related area and at least 2 years’ teaching experience within the last 5 years at Senior Certificate level; and

  • experience as a marker.

Extensive knowledge and experience of teaching, learning and assessing at the secondary school level, experience in the setting of Senior Certificate Examination question papers, and knowledge of the FETC national curriculum statements will be strong recommendations.

The successful applicants will be required to work in an examining panel to set the question papers and to prepare the marking memoranda for the final and supplementary examinations. Internal moderators will be required to provide an objective and critical review of the question papers in terms of coverage of the syllabus and overall standard. The examiners and internal moderators will be expected to travel to Pretoria from time to time in order to carry out the functions connected with the setting of the question papers. The successful applicants will also be required to sign a contract for a minimum of two years, together with an agreement of confidentiality.
