The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is pleased to announce that Woolworths is to sponsor two bursaries in the field of fashion or textile design and technology as part of its continuing commitment to design education.

The bursaries are for the three consecutive academic years, 2006 to 2008, and eligible Grade 12 Senior Certificate candidates taking art and design subjects may apply. (See Annexure A for full details)

| 1.3 |
The value of each bursary is R75,000. This bursary amount will be paid in stages as the student makes successful progresses through the three-year course, i.e. R25,000 per bursary winner per year.

| 1.4 |
The bursary winners will be required to study at the Cape Peninsula University of Technology (CPUT).
|
| 1.5 |
The bursary winners must meet the admission requirements of the CPUT.
|
| 1.6 |
All bursary applicants must participate in a three-phase selection process.
|
| 1.7 |
At all stages of the selection process, decisions will be final.

BURSARY AWARD CONDITIONS

| 2.1 |
The bursaries will be awarded as follows:

Both bursaries will be awarded on the basis of merit only, and without compromising excellence.
|
| 2.3 |
The bursary winners will be obliged to gain work experience with Woolworths during the period of their studies.
|
| 2.4 |
On successful completion of their studies, the two bursary winners will be contracted full time by Woolworths for a period equal to the duration of the course, i.e. three years.

Annexure A provides detailed information on the selection process.

Grade 12 teachers of art and design subjects should pay particular attention to Paragraph 1: Internal Selection Procedure and Paragraph 5: Time Frame, so that they can immediately proceed to identify their three best bursary applicants, who will go forward to the next stage of the process.

Principals are kindly requested to distribute this circular to their Grade 12 teachers of Senior Certificate art and design subjects.
