1. The Grade 9 World of Work learner workbooks are ready for collection. Schools are requested to collect the boxes, containing a workbook for each Grade 9 learner, from their relevant EMDCs as soon as possible.
2. The workbook, which is available in English and Afrikaans, consists of a learner questionnaire with suggested relevant assessment tasks using a range of assessment forms. Engaging learners in these tasks will assist them to make informed decisions on careers and subject choices. These tasks will form part of the learners’ Life Orientation portfolio work.
3. The PACE programme is one of the support programmes that the Western Cape Education Department has put in place to improve the throughput rate of learners and to guide them more effectively towards further learning and employment opportunities. Where learners have been exposed successfully to the PACE programme, either paper-based or on the computer, it has proven to be a very useful tool in assisting learners in this key decision making process.
4. Schools are therefore encouraged to place a high priority on the World Of Work focus in the Life Orientation Learning Area in Grade 9 and to give learners the necessary support when engaging in the PACE interest questionnaire and follow-up tasks.
5. Principals are requested to bring the content of this minute to the attention of all Life Orientation teachers concerned. The attached annexure indicates the name of the contact persons when collecting the books from the EMDCs. For further information please contact Ms BJ Prince, PACE Project Manager at Head Office by fax: 021 467 2258, telephone: 021 467 2632 or email: bprince@pgwc.gov.za or Ms D Christiaans, Senior Curriculum Planner: Life Orientation at Head Office by telephone: 021 467 2589 or e-mail: dchristi@pgwc.gov.za
