1. "CREATING A LEARNING HOME FOR ALL: THE ROLE OF THE SCHOOLS’ FET CURRICULUM"

The Western Cape Education Department (WCED) is pleased to announce a provincial conference to be held on 11 June 2005 for principals of schools that will offer the FET certificate.

1.1 The conference venue is the Northlink College (Panorama Campus), which is off the N1 and opposite the Panorama Medi-Clinic in Rothschild Boulevard (see attached map).
1.2 Registration will take place on the day from 09:00 for the opening of the conference at 10:00. The conference will end at 15:00.
1.3 A draft of the conference programme is attached. An updated version will appear on the conference web site in due course.
2. CONFERENCE INTENTION AND SCOPE

The programme is designed primarily to provide a forum for formal information-sharing, although there will be time for questions. We are at a critical period in the implementation process so it is essential that all schools are clear about all the national plans, compliance requirements, provincial plans, timelines and funding options. The conference will clarify the role of the provincial orientation in the June-July holidays and lay the foundations for EMDC sessions in the third quarter.

3. COSTS

A travel subsidy is available on request. Wherever possible, delegates are encouraged to travel together to help to cut costs.

4. REGISTRATION

Principals intending to attend should register by 3 June 2005.
On-line registration should be the norm. See the FET (schools) web page off the curriculum site at http://curriculum.wcape.school.za.
Alternatively, the attached form may be faxed to 021 467 2258, for attention Ms. J. Malies.

5. FURTHER ENQUIRIES

Further enquiries may be directed to the chief curriculum advisers or EMDC directors. Theo Smit (Head Office) may be contacted at tel. no. 021 467 2630/2582, or at e-mail address Theo Smit (mailto:tcessmit@pgwc.gov.za).
