1. In accordance with the monitoring protocol of 2003, which applies to both the Senior Certificate and the ABET Level 4 examinations, the latter examinations will be monitored again this year as part of the quality assurance responsibilities of the Department of Education.
2. EMDC directors must delegate the responsibility for monitoring the ABET examinations to teams consisting of three officials. These teams must use the ABET M2A monitoring instrument supplied by UMALUSI.
3. During the examination period the monitoring team must visit at least two ABET centres per week (i.e. a total of 8 visits) and report back to the delegated EMDC assessment representative on 3, 7, 10 and 24 June 2005.
4. The EMDC assessment representative must use the standard report format to collate the monitoring team's reports. The collated reports must be sent to the Examination Monitoring Co-ordinator (Mr TJ Magwaca) on 6, 13, 20 and 27 June 2005. Provincial reports will be sent to UMALUSI on the 7, 14, 21 and 28 June 2005 and therefore it is imperative that EMDC reports arrive at Head Office without delay.
5. In addition to the intensive monitoring done for UMALUSI, EMDCs must use the ABET M2B monitoring instrument to monitor at least 50% of all centres where ABET examinations are written. This instrument can be used by all other officials who visit ABET examination centres.
