1. The Minister of Education, Mr Cameron Dugmore, has embarked on a project to publish a collection of songs sung by the various communities in the Western Cape over the past twenty years.
2. The song-book will consist of the following types of songs in the official languages of South Africa:
  • School songs

  • Sports songs

  • Cultural songs

  • Songs focusing on the celebrations of ten years of freedom and democracy

  • Songs focusing on social issues such as HIV/Aids and crime

3. The Minister is inviting all secondary school educators and learners to submit suitable songs for selection for inclusion in the collection which should serve primarily as a learning and teaching resource in the secondary school. For this reason each song must be preceded by a brief explanation of its history/origin and the meaning of the text.
4. Staff or tonic solfa notation must be used and songs must be submitted by no later than 24 March 2005 to
