1. INVITATION

All school-based management personnel and administrative officials of educational institutions are hereby invited to attend an information session on school financial management and administration. The information session, which will be facilitated by the Western Cape Education Department, was initiated by the South African Bursars of Independent Schools Association (SABISA) and will be presented by the Manchester Metropolitan University (MMU), National School Leadership College (NSCL) and the Institute of Administrative Management (IAM) from the United Kingdom.


2. INFORMATION SESSION
2.1 Currently an academic course in school financial management and administration for bursars is being offered in the United Kingdom. A certificate, diploma or degree in school financial management and administration can be obtained on completion of this course.
2.2 The information session has been arranged to introduce the said British course, with the aim of introducing a similar accredited course in South Africa.
2.3 The information session will be held at the Northlink College in Plattekloof. Standard Bank, Royal Foods, MMU and the IAM sponsor the costs of the information session, but attendees are responsible for their own transport costs. Free parking is available. Accommodation at the Cape Teaching Institute (CTI) is available to attendees travelling further than 120 km to the venue (see attached registration form).
2.4 The programme and information material will be made available on 12 September 2005 at registration. The session will be presented in English only. Certificates of attendance will only be issued to persons attending both days from 07:30 to 16:45.
2.5 Attendees will be grouped according their level of competency in the following topics:
  • Finance

  • Human Resources

  • Risk Management

  • Facility Management

2.6 The following aspects will, inter alia, be covered:
  • Upskilling of vocational skills to perform the day-to-day activities

  • Development of best practices for school administration

  • Interaction with bursars on national and international levels

  • Motivation for the introduction of a recognised bursar course which will be developed.

3. APPLICATION FOR REGISTRATION

Limited seats are available and schools who want to attend the information session are requested to apply as soon as possible by faxing the attached registration form to the director of your Education Management and Development Centre (EMDC). Applications close at 12:00 on 22 August 2005. Should you have received no written confirmation by 1 September 2005 you may assume that your application was not successful. Please take note that incomplete applications will not be considered and that no correspondence in respect of late and/or outstanding information will be entered into. If selected, you are requested to bring the letter confirming your registration to the information session. The following seats have been allocated for each EMDC:
