The State President has announced that the national elections will be held on 14 April 2004. In order to facilitate this process, and in the interest of democracy, the Western Cape Education Department (WCED) may again be requested to assist by making education facilities available as voting stations. Should schools and other education institutions be approached in this regard, the WCED would not have any objections if they make their buildings available for this purpose. |

Note, however, that with a view to the security of staff, students and learners, as well as the safeguarding of school and other property and compensation for damage, etc., a prior agreement will have to be drawn up between the Independent Electoral Commission (IEC) and the relevant institution in such cases. |
