1. Heads of educational institutions, school management teams, school governing bodies, educators, parents and learners are encouraged to nominate practising and retired educators of Mathematics and/or Science and/or Technology for the Mathematics, Science and Technology Teacher of the Year Award.
2. The main sponsors of the programme are the Telkom Foundation, the Sowetan and Protec.
3. Please note the following regarding the nomination process:
3.1 A nomination form is attached. (Photocopies are acceptable.) The nomination form must be completed correctly and no information must be omitted. An exposition of the prizes to be won at provincial and national levels appears at the back of the nomination form.
3.2 Nominees must be entered in one of the following categories:
(a) Practising educators: GET phase
(b) Practising educators: FET phase
(c) Retired educators
3.3 The criteria on the nomination form will assist nominators in their assessment of nominees.
3.4 A nominee need only submit a portfolio and two testimonials if he or she progresses to the provincial finals. Clear guidelines on what the portfolio should contain will be provided at that stage.
3.5 Provincial finalists will be expected to attend a workshop organised by one of the sponsors, the Shuttleworth Foundation.
3.6 Only the winners in the categories Practising educator: FET and Retired educator will progress to the national finals to be held in Johannesburg in March 2005.
3.7 Completed nomination forms (marked For attention: Mathematics, Science and Technology Co-ordinators) must be sent to the Chief Curriculum Adviser at your EMDC by no later than 29 October 2004.
