The Performance Management and Development Scheme (PMDS) for office-based educators was introduced through the adoption of Collective Agreement 3 of 2002. Between July and September 2003, the Directorate: Human Resource Development arranged for all the relevant officials to be trained in the system. Guidance and follow-up sessions were conducted, as requested.

According to the time-table for the implementation of the system, supervisors should now have completed the annual (summative) performance appraisal, which includes the appraisal discussion, a new work plan (within four weeks of the appraisal discussion) and the formulation of a Personal Development Plan.

This circular minute serves to request all directors to submit the overall performance rating (out of a total of 10) to Mr B.O. Meyer (Room 9-34) of the Directorate: Personnel Management -Educators by 24 May 2004. The information should be provided on the attached template, which should be signed by the director in charge of the component. The completed instruments/ forms should be stored in a safe place by the director.

I trust that you and the relevant officials have found the appraisal process an enriching one. I would appreciate your comments and suggestions for the improvement of the system for the next cycle. In the near future there will be opportunities to discuss the refinement of the entire process.
