1. The National Teaching Awards give recognition to excellence and a high level of professionalism and provide the education fraternity with the opportunity to celebrate the achievements of outstanding educators. More than this, they highlight the exceptional work done by educators in general. The Western Cape Education Department is proud to act as host and organiser of the National Teaching Awards in the province.
2. The different categories of awards are as follows:
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN EARLY CHILDHOOD DEVELOPMENT
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN PRIMARY SCHOOL TEACHING
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN SECONDARY SCHOOL TEACHING
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AT THE PRIMARY LEVEL
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN LEADERSHIP AT THE SECONDARY LEVEL
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN SPECIAL NEEDS TEACHING
CATEGORY: EXCELLENCE IN ABET TEACHING (New category)
CATEGORY: LIFETIME ACHIEVEMENT AWARD
3. All educators are invited to be part of this process by submitting nominations (criteria and format attached) to their principals/centre managers. The latter will send them to their respective Education Management and Development Centres (EMDCs). Should you require further information, please contact one of the following co-ordinators:
