One of the biggest challenges facing education is the impending AIDS crisis. Research confirms that schools remain the primary source (formal and informal) of information for young people on the prevention of AIDS. The WCED is committed to reinforcing this role so as to ensure that our youth acquire the knowledge, skills, attitudes and values to make and sustain healthy, responsible life choices. |

Curriculum-based HIV/AIDS and sexuality life-skills training will be provided for Grades 8 and 9 educators from September 2004, and for Grades 10 to 12 educators in July 2005. (A further 10 000 primary school educators have already been trained for this important task.) |

However, as an adjunct to curriculum-based teaching, and in order to facilitate peer education and extra-mural learning in secondary schools, a limited number of educators are hereby offered an opportunity to participate in an integrated loveLifestyle training programme - to be delivered during ten training sessions across the province from July to September 2004. This training will incorporate the following four modules:
Body Ys - total health, wellness and sexuality information
Motivation - goal-setting and choices for young people
Destination Imagination - creative problem-solving skills
Debating - offering young people a platform to assertively engage with their own beliefs
Two educators per secondary school are invited to participate and you are strongly encouraged to support this initiative.
